Tree on Montauk Point

This painting was likely given to Fritz Eilers (Emma Eilers nephew) following Emma’s sister Else’s death in 1949 (I suspect the family did some house cleaning following Else’s passing — Emma died later in 1951). Like other relatives, Fritz was probably had received many paintings and distributed as he could. This likely explains the note.

In this case, the painting must have just been completed (Emma would have been 80 in 1950) and then transported or shipped back to Salt Lake City. It was given to Ruth Christie Wright (and her husband), who were friends of Jack and Ione Pembroke (friends of Fritz and Ann Eilers).

The painting was discovered for sale in California and now resides back in the Sea Cliff Area.
