He was less than a year old in 1966 when he made his first\u00a0trip over the Naches Pass in Washington State, riding on his mother&#8217;s lap.\u00a0In 1969, his parents were charter members of the Wandering Willys Jeep Club. There were several\u00a0reasons behind his purchase of a jeep in early 2007, a story he explains in his book\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deilers.com\/2016\/04\/finding-virginia-adventures-along-the-rocky-trail-of-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Finding Virginia<\/a>. As David scoured Craigslists in late 2007 for parts for his newest project, he realized that finding vintage jeep parts was more difficult than he&#8217;d expected. That led to the formation of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ewillys.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eWillys.com<\/a> at the start of 2008, a site to teach people about vintage jeeps, their history, and list jeeps and parts for sale.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1009\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1009\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/deilers.com\/AlaskaOrRust\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/biscuit-800px.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1009\" src=\"https:\/\/deilers.com\/AlaskaOrRust\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/biscuit-800px.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.deilers.com\/AlaskaOrRust\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/biscuit-800px.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.deilers.com\/AlaskaOrRust\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/biscuit-800px-300x239.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.deilers.com\/AlaskaOrRust\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/biscuit-800px-768x612.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1009\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lost Biscuit, a fiberglass CJ-3A.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since its inception, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ewillys.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eWillys<\/a> has grown to a total of\u00a040,000 posts\u2014making it a unique jeep archive\u2014with\u00a0a\u00a0world-wide readership. As a result of its popularity, David and his wife Ann have toured the United States in their 2012 Grand Cherokee (named Henry), meeting readers, exploring odd places, and reporting on their journeys (example trips:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ewillys.com\/tag\/2014-southwest-trip\/?orderby=date&amp;order=ASC&amp;more=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Southwest Tour<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ewillys.com\/tag\/2015-Texas-Trip\/?orderby=date&amp;order=ASC&amp;more=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Texas Tour<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ewillys.com\/tag\/2013-may-june-trip\/?orderby=date&amp;order=ASC&amp;more=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">East Coast Tour<\/a>) . There were four models and three different body types produced initially. Willys Motors realized the DJs might make\u00a0popular, inexpensive rental vehicles, so they introduced brightly colored versions of the DJ-3A\u00a0called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jeepsurreygala.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Surreys and Galas<\/a>\u00a0intended as resort rentals.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s the difference between a Surrey and Gala? There is some debate about the issue, since much of the history has been lost.
